A Home for Artists and Scientists

In the expansive park of the Villa Krämerstein, not far from the city of Lucerne and right on the shore of the lake, you will find a charming little timber house. Originally erected in the 18th century, the house previously served local farmers as a storage space as well as the living quarters for agricultural laborers. Today, the Haus am See – the house on the lake – has been repurposed as a retreat for artists and scientists. The municipality of Horw, which has owned the Krämerstein estate for the past 30 years, diligently renovated the house in 1990 and handed it over to a foundation, which has been renting the apartment to applicants working in the arts or sciences ever since. Each year, the board of the foundation, with a contribution of the municipality of Horw, can invite two to three guests for a duration of several weeks.

The Haus am See provides an ideal and inspiring environment combining leisure and creativity in a unique atmosphere.
The ground floor features a room used for civil marriages by the municipality of Horw.
